I'M BACKKKK! I guess I should explain my absence. A few months ago on a hiking trip to Colorado my laptop smashed into a million pieces and I am just now replacing it. I can't even describe to you the struggle of going two months without a laptop. No online shopping, no blogging, NO NETFLIX. It was tragic. A dark time in my life that I am trying to forget.

In all seriousness, I am so happy to be back and I promise that there will be no more long gaps of silence from me. All of you are rolling your eyes and already annoyed with me filling up your emails with new blog posts, I just know it.

There will be a lot of changes on my blog, because guess what, my life has changed a lot in two months. I plan on adding a social commentary section on my blog where I write personal essays talking about a wide range of issues. I have a lot on my mind lately, a lot of feelings bottled up. 

Anyways, I just got back from a fantastic anniversary vacation in Marfa with my fantastic boyfriend. A few of my new posts might look familiar, because we went back to the same resort we stayed at last year. We couldn't stay away. Honestly, how could you when a place is so magical?

This vacation in particular had an extra dose of magic in the form of a wailing, sassy, one pound kitten. We found her on the side of the road scared, alone, and starving. We brought her home with us, her name is Marfa. She loves it here in her new Austin home. 

Of course, I had to take a trip to my favorite art instillation, Prada Marfa. I decided to wear my best western hippie look. A black fringe skirt, a western style statement belt, and a big boater hat. You can never go wrong with fringe and you can never go wrong with black. The statement belt is my new statement necklace. A belt can bring an entire outfit together and it can make an outfit look more flattering. I think it is extremely important to splurge on one really great belt that you can wear with everything in your closet.

This belt I'm wearing is expensive. It cost me almost $200, but before you write me off as crazy, you should know that I wear this belt at least 3 times a week. Before I decided to spend the money on it, I went into my closet and put together 5 different outfits and imagined what they would look like wiht the belt. I realized that every piece of clothing in my closet could be worn with that one belt, and that is when I knew I had to buy it. I might have spent a pretty penny on this piece, but I am getting a lot of wear out of it. Quality is so important. You are spending money on something that is going to last you your entire life, which makes it worth it.

70's Mom

Sometimes when I wake up in the morning and stand in front of my closet asking myself who I want to be that day, the only logical answer is 70's mom. I mean who doesn't want to sit at home all day baking, listening to records, and getting drunk off of martinis? OK, OK I know that most women in the 70's were not like this but this is what my grandma was doing so I'm sticking with it. My goal in life is to be a 70's mom.

High wasted jeans, platform sandals, and a brown shirt tied at the stomach is all I needed to create my mom look. Brown is THE color this season, at least for me. It's Been Too Long

 DID YOU MISS ME?! I sure missed you. It has been 3 weeks since I last blogged, 3 WEEKS. That is the longest I have ever been without blogging. My blog is like my baby, so when I don't get to style outfits, edit pictures, or spend time writing blog posts I feel lost. My life has been hectic to say the least. I am taking 18 hours of classes and working a part time job at Free People. I am hardly home anymore, I hate how jumbled my mind is. I am constantly trying to be organized and keep my schedule in place, but it is difficult when I have so much going on. Graduating from college is a scarey process, a part of me is clinging on to this reckless carefree childhood, a time where I can get drunk on Tuesday nights and skip Friday classes to sleep in.Yet, another part of me is trying to break free from tests, papers, and simple retail jobs. I want to finish school and I want to get out into the real world where I can get a job and wake up everyday knowing that I'll be spending my day doing something that I love, surrounded by people who also share the same talents and passions as I do. College has been an amazing time for me, but I know that I am meant to do something more. I truly do not believe that these are the best four years of my life, because I still have the rest of my life ahead of me, and I believe that I can be even more fantastic in the future (so modest of me I know). This semester is definitely the most stressed out I have ever been, but I know that all of this hard work will be worth it come December 5th.

With so many stressful days happening for me, I tend to reach for a more bohemian look. Mainly because it is a lot more comfortable! This comfortable blanket style jacket (it is NOT a kimono) and my boyfriend jeans are my go to pieces, especially when it is colder outside. This is the perfect outfit for a day at work or a day in the library. Thanks for listening to me rant and be sappy over graduation! ;)

Secret Garden

 When you've lived in downtown Austin (or any small eclectic city) for as long as I have you start to obtain a lot of secret spots. Spots that are away from the hustle and bustle of the city, spots that are so quiet they make you realize how loud your life really is, spots that make you feel like time doesn't exist anymore. My favorite spot is the secret garden. Plants, flowers, and beautiful architecture are lavishly abundant in the garden. No one is ever around, and I have always kind of felt like I was the missing key (note the giant keyhole) to this place. I spend all day here sometimes, so it is important for me to dress properly to withstand the Texas heat. This poncho from Free People is a must have piece for warmer months, it is enough material to help prevent sunburn and mosquito bites, and it is also light and airy so you won't get overheated wearing it. Novella Royale

 Novella Royale can do no wrong. Their clothes are so uncommon, not to mention comfortable. I have never seen a clothing brand with such an individual point of view. They are bringing back the best of the Janis Joplin years and I praise them for that. For months I looked long and hard for a pair of 70's inspired pants and everything I found looked cheesy and forced, that is until I came across Novella Royale. Their patterns are beautiful and their shapes are effortless, clinging to the best parts of your body making for an extremely flattering fit. Festival Ready

Festival season is upon us once again. It's the time of the year when people from all over the world get together, let their hair down, and put aside their differences for a weekend filled with good music, good dancing, and good vibes. I love this time of year, one of my favorite components of festival season is getting to see everyone's take on festival style. A sea of flower crowns, printed bell bottoms, floppy hats, Bindi, hair chalk, feather headdresses, and crotchet tops surround you. It's actually quite beautiful and amazing. Women who are usually wearing tailored suits and high heels are running around in moccasins and rompers, sipping beer and dancing with their friends. It's that one time of the year when you can let go of everything and just be free. This is one of my many takes on festival fashion, these Novella Royale bells are lightweight and perfect for a music festival. We Could Step Into The Sun

  Today was a great day to be living in Texas, It was 75 degrees and sunny all day. Hot and sunny in January...can you believe it?! A lot of people don't give this state enough credit. Don't get me wrong, when I graduate from university I am getting the hell out of here, but there really is so much beauty in this state. Days like today make me thankful and happy. Of course on my happy days I want to wear fun and happy clothes. These pants from Novella Royale are a dream come true. They are fun, flattering, and they make old people who grew up in the 70's feel nostalgic and happy. I always have older people stop me on the street and ask, "Where did you get those?! I had those same pants when I was in college!" I am absolutely in love with them, they bring out the whimsical 70's flower child in me. Groovy, right?
