Blue Bonnet Season

It is officially blue bonnet season here in Texas, so here is a cliche blog post of me posing in them. I don't care how annoying people think blue bonnet pictures are, I looooovvveee them. Honestly, I just love everything about blue bonnet season. It isn't officially spring until the blue bonnets come out.

As I was organizing all of my blog posts for these upcoming two weeks I noticed a trend: white lace. I don't know why, but I've really been diggin white lace for spring and summer. Usually white lace is something I stay away from, I really don't know why I tend to stay away from it....maybe it's too bridal or maybe it's not edgy enough. Whatever the reason, it's very odd to have so many white lace pieces hanging in my closet, but I am so happy that I've spent the money on them. You'll see the many different ways I like to style white lace in blog posts later this week.

I styled this white lace bralette with layers of dainty gold jewelry and distressed boyfriend jeans. It's just my way of making lace look less girly.

Now here is a little tip for all the ladies out there who are as pale as I am: Don't be afraid of white clothing. Some people try to say that pale girls can't pull off the color white, but I'm here to tell you that is not true. Pale girls can actually pull off every color, especially white. I love the way pale colors, like white, make my skin look. They make your skin look soft and milky, and when you step out into the sun you'll glow. It's awesome. Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't wear. You do you, girl.

P.S. Here is a close up of all the gold jewelry I was wearing with this outfit. You can shop this body chain from Vanessa Mooney here

The White Maxi Dress

The white maxi dress is a classic warm weather look. When the air starts to feel heavy and the days stretch on forever you know it's time to switch out your winter whites for your summer whites. I have about 18 variations of the white maxi dress hanging in my closet. They are perfect for those spring days when it is too damn hot to wear pants but you haven't gotten around to shaving the fur coats you spent all winter long growing on your legs ( ladies don't even pretend like you can't relate to this). This white maxi is my favorite because it is loose and breezy. It's not fun wearing tight dressed when it's 107 degrees outside....EW, just thinking about the back sweat those dresses cause makes me uncomfortable. Another upside to this dress is that it's see-through, which allows you to wear and show off one of your cute lingerie sets. I don't know about you, but sometimes I'll buy a lingerie set and get really pissed off because I can't wear it out of the house and show the world how good I look. This dress fixes that problem!! Even if this dress isn't the right style for you, I highly suggest that you drop some money on a white maxi dress that can last you through the spring and summer seasons. It's a must have warm weather staple. Shop my dress below, babes.

Frills, Frills, Frills

I have this Victorian hippie vibe going on today. Lately I have been really into mixing different silhouettes. This A-line denim skirt and frilly high neck top just seemed to fit perfectly together. I love mixing and matching. I could spend hours in front of my wardrobe mixing different prints, fabrics, and shapes together. It's interesting spending so much time in front of my wardrobe and seeing all of the different combinations that I can come up with. Is it weird to spend an entire Saturday playing in my closet? Why am I so obsessed with my clothes? Definitely a fashion girl problem.

Have you gotten sick of this skirt yet? I hope not because I have at least 800 more blog posts planned featuring this skirt. It is very important to have pieces in your wardrobe that you can constantly go back to. I used to spend hundreds of dollars a week on clothes that I would only wear once before donating for $15 measly dollars to Buffalo exchange (cheapskates, the lot of them!). Now, I like to invest in nice pieces that I know can carry me through many seasons and many years. That's the big life saving secret to being a fashion girl: spend your money on clothing that you can wear a million times in a million different ways.

Boyish

Let's face it, I am very routine with my style. In the morning, if I'm not dressed like a 60's kitten or a boy, I'm not leaving the house. These are my two favorite styles, so obviously I'm going to stick with them. I wore this boyish look to a last minute brunch with my sister, and guess what? I was very comfortable.

If you are obsessed with plaid shirts like I am, you need to be shopping at Rails. They make the BEST plaid shirts. Yes, they are a bit pricey, but if you are a plaid shirt snob like I am, they are well worth the price. They are comfortable, made out of the highest quality material, and look at how pretty they are! Shop my look below, babes.

She Could Be A Farmer In Those Clothes

"You could hit a few balls in those clothes."

"She could be a farmer in those clothes....."

While the Amber's of the world will never grasp the idea of creating a simple and stylish outfit that is focused around overalls, the Cher Horowitz's of the world (ahem, obviously me and you) will just respond with, "WHATEVER." Like I've said a million times, all of your outfits don't need to be extremely intricate. Sometimes we just don't have time for that. You can keep it simple while still looking stylish. The trick is to pick one item that is unique enough to stand out but easy enough to make people think, "damn, why didn't I do that this morning?" I find one piece (usually denim) and create a simple, yet stylish, outfit around it. As of right now, my favorite pieces to base outfits around are these Zara Overalls that I'm wearing, The Kety A-Line Denim Skirt made by the beautiful Alexa Chung and AG Jeans, and my Lovers + Friends boyfriend jeans. they are such simple pieces, just a pair of overalls, denim skirt, and jeans, but in reality, people don't think about wearing overalls or jean skirts out of the house that much. It's easy to think outside of the box with your wardrobe without going too overboard. If you don't have a pair of boyfriend jeans or denim overalls hanging in your closet, you need to go shopping right now! I swear that these items will save your life someday. Ok, so they probably won't end up saving your life, but they will save you from ever being asked that dreaded question, "Do you prefer fashion victim or ensembly challenged?"

More than anything, I hope that this post made you want to watch Clueless.

Channeling Jane Birkin

I want to be Jane Birkin, which is probably something you did not know about me. Jane Birkin is my ultimate fashion icon, I mean the woman has the most famous bag in the entire world named after her, obviously she is pretty freakin awesome. Jane Birkin was famous for wearing mini dresses with slightly A-line skirts, which is the exact style and shape of this little number from Reformation.

I am not exactly sure if the lovely Jane Birkin wore a lot of leopard print dresses, but I guess that is just my personal touch on such a classic dress. Some people absolutely loath leopard print, and I am here to tell you that I am not one of those people. In contrast, I absolutely LOVE leopard print. It goes with everything and it never goes out of style. As I got older and grew more confident with my style, I stopped shopping for trendy clothes and started shopping for clothes that fit my personality, are timeless, and can be carried from season to season. To me this dress is very practical, I will be able to wear it for many years to come and I can style it up or down for any event and season. To put it plainly: I am obsessed with this dress and you can't make me take it off. ever.

If you are like me and constantly on the hunt for clothes that can be worn for more than a month before going out of season, I suggest you shop at Reformation. The clothes are beautiful, timeless, and made out of recycled material so they are a-okay for the environment. Their clothes can be a little pricey, but you get what you are paying for, definitely a bang for your buck.

So back to this outfit, as you can probably see, it is very simple. Just a leopard print dress and a pair of killer black motorcycle boots. This dress is a statement piece on its own, so it doesn't need much more to go with it. Adding too many accessories and pieces to an already loud piece will just make your outfit look cluttered and it will just be too much for the eyes to handle. The most that I will do with this dress is add a black boater had or tie a red plaid shirt around my waist. I love dresses that catch all the attention and make it unnecessary to wear a lot of other pieces with it. Sometimes it's just more comfortable to throw on a dress and a pair of bad ass boots to take over the world.

A quick sorry for how long it has taken me to post, I have been very busy (more like stressed the fuck out) and I just got back from a trip to New York City (I will talk ALL about that amazing moment in my life in another post later this week) so I have barely had time to make it to my computer.......just kidding I spent all day watching Dexter on Netflix so I have been near my laptop, BUT my photographer, aka my boyfriend, was gone on a ski trip for an entire week so I had no choice but to be out of business. I have a lot of really cool posts in the months to come, and tomorrow I leave for a romantic getaway to New Orleans with my boyfriend. Only me and my boyfriend would consider New Orleans a romantic getaway, HA. But seriously, we are staying in the Garden District, which is the oldest, wealthiest, and the most lush area in New Orleans. While I am away I won't be able to blog but follow me on instagram to keep up with my adventures! When I get back I promise, promise, promise I will blog all day every day.

My Go-To Outfit

Let's face it, there isn't a single girl on the face of this earth who wakes up every day wanting to get dressed up. If you say that you do love it, you're lying. I wanted to do a blog post on my "everyday outfit" because the truth is, I don't wake up every day wanting to wear frilly skirts and heels. My everyday outfit is very baggy, consisting of boyfriend jeans, my favorite low neck shirt, a cute bralette, and booties. This is what I feel comfortable in, this is what I love. I wear this outfit more than I wear any other outfit. You will see me out of the house getting coffee, taking my dog to the dog park, or rifling through records at the local vintage record store in this outfit probably three times a week, just in a different variation. I have this same shirt in black and about a million different adorable bralettes which help me mix up this go-to outfit a little bit. Everyone has a go-to outfit, whether you realize it or not. It may be a flowy baby doll dress, and it may be a pair of Nike shorts and an oversized t-shirt, but when it comes down to it, every single girl in the world has their own go-to outfit. This is mine, and I love it.

Fringe

In most of these photos I am twirling, but what else are you going to do when you wear fringe? You wear fringe when you are ready to relax, let go, and have fun. Which is why I have decided to wear it. Relaxing and having fun are two things that have really been missing from my life lately. I have come to a turning point in my life, and there have been a very long series of unfortunate events happening to me lately. I feel like everything is about to change for me, and maybe not in the good way. I almost gave up on my blog because I was at the point where I was thinking, "what is the point of this? This is one of the few places I have creative freedom and can truly be myself, but do I deserve it?" My boyfriend screamed at me when I told him this, and I am glad he did, because I would NEVER give up fashion blogging. It truly makes me so happy. A lot of terrible things may be happening to me now, but I will always have my blog, a place to myself that makes me happy. Everyone deserves that. I might have been MIA from my blog while I was figuring some things out, but not anymore. I am here to stay, so you will be hearing from me a lot more.

ANYWAYS, rant over. You are probably like, "what the hell is she talking about," but it was just something I needed to say, dammit. I decided to pair this fringe skirt with slick over the knee boots and pops of red in the form of lingerie and the greatest hat in the world. You are going to be so sick of this hat very soon, I can't seem to take it off my head. Red is the best color because it goes with everything. I decided to offset the fringe with these boots and red features to add a little edge to the outfit. Fringe is really bohemian, which is awesome, but if you are wanted less bohemian and more edgy, slick kick-ass boots and red lingerie are the way to go. A mix between city and country. Yes?No?Maybe? I'll let you decide....

I know, it is bullshit that I don't have this skirt for you to shop, it's like the main point of the outfit, but I actually have no idea where it is from. My mom gave it to me as a birthday gift. A mom with good taste, sweet right? I am so sorry, loves. You can shop some really beautiful fringe skirts here and here

Turtle Necks and Slip Dresses

Believe it or not, but it is actually freezing here in Texas. Once the weather starts getting cold, a full out panic breaks out among Austinites. We aren't eqiupt for this weather. We are used to it being one million degrees outside. When the first nip of cold swoops through the air and pricks the bare arms of a tank top clad Texan, all hell breaks loose. Everyone is all of a sudden saying their goodbyes as they lay day and accept defeat, just waiting for the cold to take them. Seriously, you would think we were trying to survive naked in the freaking Tundra or something. Even if you live in a warm state and don't have that many pieces of warm clothing, it is really easy and cheap to transition your wardrobe. Your summer and spring wardrobe can take you through the entire year, you just have to get the hang of layering. Splurge on a few sweaters, some knee high socks, and a nice jacket. BOOM, you're ready for the cold. I have had the same beautiful leather jacket for years and I wear it with everything, it was definitely worth the money and it makes it so I don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on new winter clothes. Well, me personally, I am a shopaholic so I spent hundreds of dollars on clothes just because I love doing it, but for all of you normal people, stocking up on a few layering pieces is a money saver! I hope everyone is enjoying this cold weather!
