70's Mom

Sometimes when I wake up in the morning and stand in front of my closet asking myself who I want to be that day, the only logical answer is 70's mom. I mean who doesn't want to sit at home all day baking, listening to records, and getting drunk off of martinis? OK, OK I know that most women in the 70's were not like this but this is what my grandma was doing so I'm sticking with it. My goal in life is to be a 70's mom.

High wasted jeans, platform sandals, and a brown shirt tied at the stomach is all I needed to create my mom look. Brown is THE color this season, at least for me. I have been stocking up on brown sandals and tops. The Reformation has all of the most beautiful brown clothing right now, so I suggest you hop on over to their website. Blue Bonnet Season

It is officially blue bonnet season here in Texas, so here is a cliche blog post of me posing in them. I don't care how annoying people think blue bonnet pictures are, I looooovvveee them. Honestly, I just love everything about blue bonnet season. It isn't officially spring until the blue bonnets come out.

As I was organizing all of my blog posts for these upcoming two weeks I noticed a trend: white lace. I don't know why, but I've really been diggin white lace for spring and summer. Usually white lace is something I stay away from, I really don't know why I tend to stay away from it....maybe it's too bridal or maybe it's not edgy enough. Whatever the reason, it's very odd to have so many white lace pieces hanging in my closet, but I am so happy that I've spent the money on them. You'll see the many different ways I like to style white lace in blog posts later this week.

I styled this white lace bralette with layers of dainty gold jewelry and distressed boyfriend jeans. It's just my way of making lace look less girly.

Now here is a little tip for all the ladies out there who are as pale as I am: Don't be afraid of white clothing. Some people try to say that pale girls can't pull off the color white, but I'm here to tell you that is not true. Pale girls can actually pull off every color, especially white. I love the way pale colors, like white, make my skin look. They make your skin look soft and milky, and when you step out into the sun you'll glow. It's awesome. Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't wear. You do you, girl.

P.S. Here is a close up of all the gold jewelry I was wearing with this outfit. You can shop this body chain from Vanessa Mooney here

Fringe

Unless you were living under a rock during fashion month, then you know that 70's vibes are all the rage this season. Flared pants, denim minis and fringed leather were seen parading down the runway making our inner flower child sing.

What I love most about a leather fringe vest is that it is such a versatile piece. You can wear it with any item of clothing hanging in your closet. Dress it down with a pair of flared jeans or dress it up with a lace form fitting ankle length dress. Either way it works and adds an element of fun to your outfit.

You have seen me stress many times on my blog the importance of a good quality leather piece. If you are still looking for a nice, yet affordable, leather piece to add to your wardrobe I suggest you click on over to Zara's website. They have great leather pieces for reasonable prices because ZARA IS LIFE. Stop trying to fight Zara and it's affordable fast fashion. Just accept it, love it, and spend all of your money at it.

P.S. A little update on my life, I recently became a freelance fashion journalist! After I graduated I planned on focusing all my attention on my marketing career, but after being harassed (not the right word I'm just trying to be a smart ass) by multiple people to write fashion articles I thought, "what the hell!" and that is how my new excited side career as a freelance fashion journalist began. Interesting I know. Even though you might not be swinging from the rafters by this recent news, I am extremely excited about it. Shoot me an email if you are interesting in working with me.

The White Maxi Dress

The white maxi dress is a classic warm weather look. When the air starts to feel heavy and the days stretch on forever you know it's time to switch out your winter whites for your summer whites. I have about 18 variations of the white maxi dress hanging in my closet. They are perfect for those spring days when it is too damn hot to wear pants but you haven't gotten around to shaving the fur coats you spent all winter long growing on your legs ( ladies don't even pretend like you can't relate to this). This white maxi is my favorite because it is loose and breezy. It's not fun wearing tight dressed when it's 107 degrees outside....EW, just thinking about the back sweat those dresses cause makes me uncomfortable. Another upside to this dress is that it's see-through, which allows you to wear and show off one of your cute lingerie sets. I don't know about you, but sometimes I'll buy a lingerie set and get really pissed off because I can't wear it out of the house and show the world how good I look. This dress fixes that problem!! Even if this dress isn't the right style for you, I highly suggest that you drop some money on a white maxi dress that can last you through the spring and summer seasons. It's a must have warm weather staple. Shop my dress below, babes.

Frills, Frills, Frills

I have this Victorian hippie vibe going on today. Lately I have been really into mixing different silhouettes. This A-line denim skirt and frilly high neck top just seemed to fit perfectly together. I love mixing and matching. I could spend hours in front of my wardrobe mixing different prints, fabrics, and shapes together. It's interesting spending so much time in front of my wardrobe and seeing all of the different combinations that I can come up with. Is it weird to spend an entire Saturday playing in my closet? Why am I so obsessed with my clothes? Definitely a fashion girl problem.

Have you gotten sick of this skirt yet? I hope not because I have at least 800 more blog posts planned featuring this skirt. It is very important to have pieces in your wardrobe that you can constantly go back to. I used to spend hundreds of dollars a week on clothes that I would only wear once before donating for $15 measly dollars to Buffalo exchange (cheapskates, the lot of them!). Now, I like to invest in nice pieces that I know can carry me through many seasons and many years. That's the big life saving secret to being a fashion girl: spend your money on clothing that you can wear a million times in a million different ways.

Boyish

Let's face it, I am very routine with my style. In the morning, if I'm not dressed like a 60's kitten or a boy, I'm not leaving the house. These are my two favorite styles, so obviously I'm going to stick with them. I wore this boyish look to a last minute brunch with my sister, and guess what? I was very comfortable.

If you are obsessed with plaid shirts like I am, you need to be shopping at Rails. They make the BEST plaid shirts. Yes, they are a bit pricey, but if you are a plaid shirt snob like I am, they are well worth the price. They are comfortable, made out of the highest quality material, and look at how pretty they are! Shop my look below, babes.

Cozy Turtleneck Dresses

The turtleneck dress is probably the greatest cold weather invention known to woman. You might think wearing a dress during the winter is a death wish, but you are so wrong. A turtleneck dress paired with knee high boots is actually very cozy. I spent the entire day running around the city and I didn't complain about the weather at all. This reformation dress is made out of thick and comfortable material, and the best part about it........drum roll please...........RIHANNA OWNS IT. Maybe that isn't a big deal for some people but anyone who loves fashion has to get excited over that news. Yes, Rihanna owns this same exact dress and it is probably the most affortable item in her closet so you should snatch this little number up while you can.
